FACTS ABOUT HOMELESS

Homelessness is one of the deepest expressions of social exclusion and extreme poverty in Australian society. At its core, homelessness Is a housing issue as it represents the lack of permanent secure housing.

According to the 2016 census, 1083 people were sleeping rough in W.A. And around 2. of those were Indigenous. Over the past 5 years there has been a 13.7% increase in homelessness.

There has been a 28% increase in Australians aged 55 + who are experiencing homelessness.

Although there is considerable controversy about the numbers of homeless, There is an overwhelming agreement that the numbers are increasing as each year passes.

WHAT CAN YOU DO

We are constantly looking for more volunteers and/or organisations who want to work with us! If you are considering donating your time, skills, food, clothing, bedding, anything you think will be useful – we would love to have a chat with you. The best way to get in contact with us is through our Facebook group (Street Friends WA), where we will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible and answer any questions you may have. If you think being a Street Friends volunteer is for you – come down on Thursday night and check us out, say hi and we will take it from there! We have parking available at our City site, please remember to wear closed shoes and a big smile.
